Facebook stock again below $ 30 - Amid concerns that Facebook will report lackluster Q2 earnings, the company’s stock closed at $ 28.76 today. Not even news that Facebook will begin testing search-based ads could bring the share price above $ 30 where it closed last week. The stock is down more than 6 percent this week and more than 24 percent since Facebook’s initial public offering in May. The company’s earnings call is scheduled for Thursday.

Nasdaq to revise IPO compensation proposal – Nasdaq is expected next week to release a compensation plan for investors who were affected by technical issues during Facebook’s stock market debut. Fox sources say the deal will be all in cash, and likely above the $ 40 million originally proposed. Nasdaq is continuing to work with the Securities and Exchange Commission on a second draft of the proposal, after its initial plan was met with criticism from investors, who may have lost a combined $ 200 million or more from the IPO.

Washington state to allow voter registration via Facebook – Washington’s secretary of state’s office said Tuesday it will offer an application on its Facebook page that allows residents to register to vote and then share the story with friends. The app, which is the first of its kind, is expected to launch as early as next week.

Facebook falls in consumer satisfaction – Facebook, already the lowest-scoring e-business company, experienced an even further decline in customer satisfaction, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index. An E-Business Report released in partnership with customer experience analytics firm ForeSee showed Facebook dropped 8 percent to 61 on a 100-point scale, setting a new record-low score for e-business and placing it among the five lowest-scoring companies of the 230 measured by the ACSI. Google+ scored 78 in its first appearance in the ACSI.

Zuckerberg and team looking to foster relationship with Walmart – Facebook’s senior management team, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, are scheduled to spend two days at Wal-Mart Stores Inc’s headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, meeting with executives and discussing ways to “deepen” the company’s relationship, according to Reuters. Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg have already shared photos from their visit, which began today.

Mark Pincus doesn’t plan to change Zynga’s operating strategy — Zynga Founder and CEO Mark Pincus sat down to chat with GamesIndustry.biz. When asked about whether or not recent stockholder reactions would affect the company’s business strategy, he said,”It’s OK to be a little misunderstood; but what’s not OK is to change your strategy or your execution because you’re worried about what your industry or investors are going to think of you in the short term.”

Marvel: Avengers Alliance getting new characters — Disney Playdom’s Marvel: Avengers Alliance is getting an upgrade in the form of new playable characters. The new characters are from on the current Avengers vs. X-Men storyline and include Emma Frost, Rogue, Beast, Quicksilver, Gambit, Havok, Tigra and Valkyrie.

Tencent may bring some Chinese games to Western markets — Speaking at last week’s GamesBeat conference, Tencent Senior Executive Vice President David Wallerstein said the company is building up its Western presence, but still isn’t sure about importing games from China in order to do so: “We thought about it. We’ve looked at certain titles internally, and it’s been really tough. For us to bring a game over, it has to be the right game.”

Pangalore announces Knightly Adventure — Developer Pangalore announced it’s working on Knightly Adventure, a cross-platform social RPG. The game is scheduled to launch on mobile devices and Facebook sometime in August.

Zynga appoints Ellen Siminoff to board of directors — Ellen Siminoff, a founding executive at Yahoo and  CEO of Shmoop University, Inc., joined Zynga’s board of directors this week. Siminoff  is the first woman to join the company’s board and will also join the company’s audit committee.

William Hill CEO wants social games regulated — William Hill PLC CEO Ralph Topping took to his personal blog to say he believes social gaming needs to be regulated. Addressing the issue of hard currency, he said it, “sounds like virtual money to me, which some unscrupulous operators might, just might, be tempted to use to make social gaming a form of real-money gaming with no regulation – even available to children.”

iLogos opens European headquarters — Ukrane-based indie game and outsourcing studio iLogos has established its European headquarters in Hamburg, Germany. Co-founder and CEO of iLogos Europe Alexander Goldybin says the new headquarters will allow the company to expand its presence throughout the European continent.

Eruptive Games gets $ 1M in funding — Vancouver-based Eruptive Games just snagged $ 1 million in funding from investors including Kevin Colleran (one of Facebook’s original ten employees), Kai Huang (famous for creating Guitar Hero) and Russian developer Plarium. TechCrunch reports Eruptive is targeting more hard-core players with its zombie-killing game Citizen Grim.

Facebook game named in PAX 10 —The folks over at Penny Arcade are gearing up for PAX Prime and have revealed the PAX 10, “the ten best indie games in regard to gameplay and overall fun-factor.” Developer Mango Down!’s Catch 22, an arcade game for both iOS and Facebook is included on the list.

Facebook makes homepage ads available through API – Facebook today officially opened its homepage ad units to Ads API partners and users of the Power Editor tool. This will allow other companies to buy and sell premium ad placement, freeing up some of Facebook’s own staff. Premium inventory will continue to be priced at a fixed CPM, unlike the marketplace ads appearing on the rest of the site. Although the news was announced at the end of May, this finally went live today.

Facebook for Android gets an update – Facebook’s mobile app for Android got an update this week, which includes support for the front-facing camera, new messaging features, faster login, a security improvement and a number of bug fixes.

Study shows Facebook’s integration with rest of web – More than one-fifth of the web links to Facebook in some way, and almost eight percent use Facebook’s Open Graph tags, according to a study by Zyxt Labs. Glimpse app creates ‘Universal Price Alerts’ for products users Like – Glimpse, a new web app from social commerce site The Find, sends automatic price alert emails to users when any product, on any site, that has a “Like” button goes on sale. Universal Price Alerts are not limited to just the fashion and design items that can be found in Glimpse. Call of Duty invading China with Tencent — Activision and Tencent are teaming up to bring an online version of Call of Duty to China. Call of Duty Online doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will monetize through the sale of virtual goods.

SongPop gets premium mobile treatment — FreshPlanet’s hit game SongPop is getting a new premium mobile version. Although SongPop’s already available on iOS, the premium version is ad-free, comes with the ability to “play with twice as many friends at once” and contains extended music clips.

Mango Games launching games for Indian users — Social game developer Mango Games is launching two new games for Facebook users in India. Details on the games, Rummy and Don, are vague, but they’re launching in July.

iGaming announces date for iGaming Meetup — iGaming Business announced its first “iGaming Meetup” will be July 17 in London. iGaming Meetups are conferences for social game developers, social media experts and investors.

No “clear-cut good and evil” in Game of Thrones Ascent — Jon Radoff of developer Disruptor Beam opened up to Strategy Informer about his company’s upcoming Facebook game, Game of Thrones Ascent. According to Radoff, there aren’t any “good or evil” forces for players to choose from, as such a mechanic wouldn’t work in the game’s universe.

Restaurant City getting fan-made successor — Fans of the defunct Restaurant City have decided to make a spiritual successor to the game, Restaurant World. The game already has an app page, blog, forums and almost 2,000 fans.

Facebook and Yahoo have resolved their patent disputes out of court, agreeing to cross-license their patent portfolios and begin a new advertising partnership, according to a press release. All Things D, which broke the news this morning, says the settlement does not involve any payment between the companies. Facebook will license a little more than half of Yahoo’s digital patent portfolio and agree not to sue on the remaining ones, which Facebook can license or buy in the future. The companies will partner on “premium media experiences promoted and distributed across both Yahoo and Facebook,” the press release says. All Things D reports that Yahoo will be the first partner able to show users’ Likes in its display advertising.

Facebook stock up slightly this week - Facebook shares closed at $ 31.73 today, up 2 percent this week. The stock traded as low as $ 30.55 on Monday, but was back up today with news that the company ended its legal battle with Yahoo and formed a strategic partnership with the company.

Facebook could launch job board – Facebook may be planning to launch its own job board later this summer, according to Wall Street Journal sources. The job board would aggregate the job postings of third-party providers, making them available for search by Facebook users, according to the report. Facebook did not comment on the rumors. The social network announced a partnership in October with the U.S. Labor Department and other partners to provide job-hunting resources. At the time, Facebook said that the “partnership will explore and develop systems where new job postings can be delivered virally through the Facebook site at no charge.” This rumored job board could be part of that effort.

Facebook recognizes gay married couples with new icons - Facebook has created new same-sex marriage icons to provide recognition for users who are married to a person of the same sex. Users who have indicated on Timeline that they are married will now display the new same-sex marriage icons, rather than the marriage icon used for straight married couples.

Facebook invests in underwater Internet cable – Facebook has invested in the Asia Pacific Gateway, a 6,214-mile undersea cable designed to improve Internet speeds for citizens and businesses in the region, the BBC reports. The fiber-optic cable will run directly from Malaysia to South Korea and Japan, with links branching off to other countries.

Facebook launches App Center in U.K. - Facebook continues to roll out its App Center, this week bringing the new mobile and desktop experience to users in the United Kingdom, according to Journalism.co.uk.
